The lecture — named after our founder Charles Bradlaugh — is an annual event which provides a space for a distinguished speaker to explore a secularist topic in depth. Gita will focus on the impact of Hindu nationalism on contemporary British, Indian and international politics. She will also discuss the history of secularism in India, comparing Hindu nationalism with more pluralistic elements of the broader nationalist and anti-imperialist movement. The lecture comes amid increasing concern over Hindu nationalist rhetoric, violence and policy, particularly in India. Last year a Pew Research Centre study found that India was the fourth worst country in the world for religious violence. Observers say Hindu mobs have in particular targeted Muslims, Christians and Sikhs. In recent weeks India’s governing Bharatiya Janata Party BJP , a Hindu nationalist party, has criticised the Catholic archbishop of Delhi after he warned that the country’s secular democracy was under threat.

Overview “The Namesake” from Novels for Students. The book was well received by critics and highly anticipated. This anticipation was based on Lahiri’s first book, the Pulitzer prize-winning collection of short stories titled Interpreter of Maladies. It may have been a different story in Duisburg had Jimenez converted from 12 yards but Yassine Bounou made a save and Ocampos glanced in the only goal two minutes from time. Wolves, whose European adventure started 13 months and 17 games ago, had too little time to respond and Sevilla saw things through to advance to another continental semi-final.
Adama Traore’s pace put Sevilla’s defenders under pressure right from the off and he won Wolves’ 11th-minute penalty after being hacked down by Diego Carlos inside the box. Jimenez stuttered his run up and Bounou – stood slightly off his line – made a straightforward stop to his left, with Joao Moutinho slicing wide from the rebound. Sevilla used that scare as a wake-up call but it took until the hour mark for their first real chance – Youssef En-Nesyri poking the ball straight at Rui Patricio after wriggling through.
Jules Kounde and En-Nesyri wasted good headed opportunities inside the six-yard box, either side of Ever Banega testing Patricio from a free-kick. Now unbeaten in 19 games, and having lost just one of their last nine European knockout ties with English opposition, they will fancy their chances of overcoming United.

British Asians are five times less likely to marry outside their race than their white population. The survey undertaken for BBC Asian Network by ICM found that 44 per cent of Asians would only marry someone from the same race compared to just nine per cent of white young people. The survey, which was commissioned as part of the station’s Asian Nation season looking at the state of mind of UK Asians in , found that the Asian population of the UK had markedly different attitudes to friends and relationships compared to their white counterparts.
Whilst 87 per cent of white people would consider a mixed race marriage, just over half of Asians felt the same. Only 53 per cent of Asians would consider dating someone who is white and 44 per cent of Asians would consider dating someone who is black. Twice as many young white people would go out with a black person as would a young Asian whilst just 44 per cent of Asians would do so. Young Asians appear to have a very different attitude to homosexuality compared to whites.
